The same car appears in the market as “VW Passat 1.6 TDI”, “Volkswagen Passat 1,6 tdi” and a dozen other spellings. A catalogue resolves all of them to one canonical record — without it, nothing can be compared.

Full hierarchy
Make → model family → generation → trim, as sold in Turkey.
Engine options
Displacement, power, torque and engine code; variants kept as separate records.
Fuel & transmission
Petrol, diesel, LPG, hybrid, plug-in and electric; manual, automatic, DSG, CVT.
Body types
Sedan, hatchback, SUV, estate, commercial — with production years per generation.
Equipment levels
Factory trim packages, so “same model” comparisons are actually comparable.
Kept current
New models and facelifts added as they enter the market.
Where a catalogue matters
Cascading form inputs. Make selects model, model selects trim. Free-text entry produces unmatched records and empty results.
Listing normalisation. Incoming listings from multiple sources map to one identity, making inventory and price comparison possible.
Valuation accuracy. A price model can only compare vehicles it can identify. Catalogue quality sets the ceiling on valuation quality.
